Cecy L. Carr 1865 - 1942 Dillard S. Carr 1858 - 1928 The Whitewright Sun Thursday, February 23, 1928 pg. 1 Dillard S. Carr, pioneer Whitewright citizen, died suddenly at his home Saturday morning at 6 o'clock of a heart attack. He had been feeling badly for several days, but his condition was not thought to be serious. His death was unexpected and a great shock to his family and friends. Mr. Carr was born at Cookville, Tennessee, June 29, 1857 [sic]. He came to Texas in 1878, and for the past fifty years resided in or near Whitewright. For a number of years he lived on a farm east of town. He then moved to Whitewright and began working at the carpenter's trade, which he followed for more than thirty years. Mr. Carr was married December 25, 1888 to Miss Cecy Lee Hailey of Bailey. To this union four children were born, all of whom survive. They are: Mrs. Mark Mongtomery, Whitewright; Mrs. C.H. Amos, Dallas; Rhom Carr, Wolfe City, and Joe Weldon Carr, Dallas. The deceased is also survived by his wife. Mr. Carr was a splendid citizen, and his sudden death has brought sorrow to many hearts. He was a man of exemplary habits and sunny disposition. He enjoyed the fullest confidence and was held in the highest esteem by all acquaintances. He had been a member of the Presbyterian church for forty-five years. The funeral service was held at the Presbyterian Church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, and was conducted by Rev. J.W. Wilbanks, pastor. The edifice was not large enough to accomodate the large number present to pay their respects to their departed friend and neighbor. The burial service was held at the City Cemetery and was in charge of the I.O.O.F. Lodge, of which the deceased had been a member for a number of years. Hailey, Mr. and Mrs. George Fairley, Mrs. Russell Hill, Miss Marguerite Hill, Denison; Mr. and Mrs. Ira Carr, Tom Bean; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hood, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Malone, Mrs. Tennie Langford, Howe; Miss Virginia Davenport, Dallas; Milton Scott, Jr., Denison; Mr. and Mrs. G.L. Baugher, Dallas; Mrs. Eula Wilson, Fort Worth. The Whitewright Sun October 1, 1942 pg. 1 Three Whitewright Old-Timers Die Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church for Mrs. Cecy Lee Carr, wife of the late Dillard S. Carr. The services were conducted by Rev. Joe Earnheart of Clarksville, assisted by Dr. J.F. Fender and Rev. E.P. Wooten. Interment was in the City Cemetery, directed by Glen Earnheart. Active pallbearers were Mark Montgomery, Frank Smith and Royce Lay of Whitewright, H.M. Scott and M.W. Walker of Denison, and Don Fuller of Sherman. Mrs. Carr had been in ill health for several years and was taken to Wilson N. Jones Hospital at Sherman Sept. 22, where she died at 11:55 p.m. Monday. Mrs. Carr was born May 30, 1865, at Dyersburg, Tenn., a daughter of Thomas Jefferson and Hannah Vaden Hailey. With her family she came to Texas at the age of ten and settled near Bailey, Fannin County. After attending school at Grove Hill, she taught school at Valley Creek, Terry and Corinth, and at Breckenridge in Stephens County. She was married to D.S. Carr at Bailey December 25, 1888. They moved to a farm near Whitewright and a few years later they moved to Whitewright where for many years Mr. Carr followed the carpenter's trade. Mrs. Carr died February 18, 1929 [sic]. Mrs. Carr was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mark Montgomery of Whitewright, and Miss Geneva Carr of Fort Richardson, Alaska; two sons, Rhom Carr of Fort Worth, and Joe W. Carr of San Angelo; two sisters, Mrs. T.M. Scott and Mrs. Cappie Beard of Denison; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
