Burchfield 21 February 1913 - 20 July 2001 wed 15 July 1935 Charles Ray Burchfield 1937 - 1942 "How much light, how much joy, is buried with a darling boy" The Whitewright Sun Thursday, December 10, 1942 pg. 1 CHILD KILLED IN ACCIDENT Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the First Baptist Church for Charles Ray Burchfield, age 4, son of Mr. and Mrs. Garland Burchfield, northeast of town. The services were in charge of Rev. E.P. Wootten, pastor. Interment was at the City Cemetery. Charles Ray was killed instantly about 6 p.m. Friday when a shotgun in the hands of his 7-year-old brother was discharged accidentally at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E.D. Partridge, six miles northeast of Whitewright. The tragedy occurred while the mother and grandmother were out of the house. The shotgun charge struck the child in the chest. The brother suffered facial cuts and bruises from the recoil of the gun and several stitches had to be used to close a cut on his lip. Charles Ray is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Garland Burchfield; a brother and one sister; and the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E.D. Partridge and Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Burchfield.
