The Whitewright Sun Thursday, July 26, 1962 pg. 1 Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Earnheart Funeral Chapel for Raymond A. King, 56, who died suddenly Sunday at a Ft. Worth hotel. He was a carpenter and a former resident of Whitewright. Rev. Dale Gore, Baptist minister, conducted the services and burial was in the City Cemetery. Surviving are a son, Jimmy King of Mesquite; two daughters, Mrs. W.B. Logan of Sherman and Mrs. Edith Brannon of Houston; three brothers and four grandchildren. Tracy Drane writes about him: "He died before I was even born, so I have never met him. My mom used to tell me about him, but only bits and pieces. His life was fairly elusive! He was in the Army in the 1930s and from what I'm told was stationed in the Philippines and maybe a few places in the States. He was a "jack of all trades." He worked on ranch and helped the Taylors out at the garage in Whitewright. Someone told me that the town asked him to run for Mayor once, but he refused and instead, took a job in Sherman. Pete was born February 22, 1906 in Sevier Co., Arkansas and died July 22, 1962. He was the son of Harvey Armer and Mary Jane Spicer King. They lived in Fannin Co. Around 1930 he married Naomi Ruth McCurdy, daughter of George Thomas and Maude Lou Taylor McCurdy. Maude was the daughter of John Walter and Margaret Mysainah Lyles Taylor of Whitewright, who migrated from Kentucky around 1888, like everyone else did who lived in that part of Texas. Pete had several brothers and sisters, both half and full. According to his half brother, Clyde, Pete's favorite hobby was cars. He bought used cars, fixed them up and then drove them until they died.
