It comes to the Sun this week to write in the necrologic register of this city the death of another pioneer citizen. E.E. Wallace, 78 years of age, died at his home on Maple street last Saturday afternoon.
Mr. Wallace's citizenship and his connection with the development of this country dates back to the dim, misty past.  Arriving here from Kentucky at the age of 16 years with his parents and other members of the family, his father, Emp Wallace, settled near Kentuckytown.  Soon after Whitewright was platted and the town established, he moved here and put up a blacksmith shop, which trade he followed for many years.  He was prominent in the industrial and political affairs of the town and in these activities acquired the sobriquet of "Democrat" Wallace, by which was thereafter known.
In the Civil War, he aligned himself with the Confederacy and served four years in that conflict.  Some twenty years ago he was elected Mayor of Whitewright, serving two years.  For the past six years, he had been an in valid and for the six months preceding his death he was bedfast, but during his long illness, he has been the object of solicitude, care and aid of his brothers and friends.  He was a member of the Church of Christ, and Prof. J.M. German, assisted by Rev. W.J. Epting conducted the funeral at the residence Sunday afternoon.  The interment was in the city cemetery.
The decedent is survived by his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Horace Thompson.  Three brothers, Sam and Joe Wallace of this city; Jim Wallace of Alexandria, Louisiana; and one sister Mrs. Sallie Berry of Orangeville also survive him.
