FORMER CITIZEN BURIED HERE WEDNESDAY
C.L. Umberger, who lived here for many years before moving to Sulphur, Oklahoma, 12 years ago, was found dead in his bed Tuesday morning.  His death was attributed to an attack of apoplexy.
Mr. Umberger came to Texas from Westville, Virginia a number of years ago and was an early day school teacher in this section.  He taught school at Canaan, Kentuckytown, and in other communities near Whitewright.  He also taught in Grayson College during the latter years of the institution.
Mr. Umberger was about 75 years old and is survived by several brothers and sisters who reside in Virginia.  He married Miss Clara Head of this city, who died in 1898.
Mr. Umberger was a quiet and unassuming man and lived a clean Christian life.  His many friends here speak in the highest terms of him as a good citizen and a man who  lived a clean, upright life.
The body was shipped here Wednesday and laid to rest by the side of his wife in the City Cemetery.  A large number of friends met the train and attended the funeral service.  The service was conducted at the graveside by Rev. K.R. Isbell.  Rev. J.F. Fender, who knew the deceased well, paid a beautiful tribute to his life.  He told of the many tributes he had heard paid to the life of Mr. Umberger by his former pupils, some of whom are among our leading business men today.
