Minnie Smith 26 March 1858 - 13 June 1910 R.K. Smith 1853 - 1940 The Whitewright Sun .Thursday, July 11, 1940 pg. 4 Robert Kirkpatrick Smith, 87, pioneer Whitewright grocer and resident of Grayson County for 66 years, died at 6:10 p.m. Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. D.C. Fuller, at Sherman. Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian Church here at 4 p.m. Sunday, conducted by Dr. B. Wrenn Webb, pastor. Rev. Barney McLean of Sherman and Dr. J.F. Fender, retired Presbyterian minister. Burial was in the City Cemetery, directed by Tally of Sherman and Glen Earnheart of Whitewright. Pallbearers were W.L. Smith, Roscoe Russell, Grover Vestal, Bernie Richey and C.P. McGinnis. Uncle Bob, as he was familiarly known throughout the community, was born May 18, 1853 in Gladesville, Tennessee. In 1872 he traveled to Texas in a train of 21 wagons and lived in Collin County for 2 years before moving to this community. One of the first jobs he held in Texas was cutting wood for the wood-burner train on the old Central line into McKinney. He and his cousin cut four cords a day at $1 per cord, which was considered extra good wages in that early day. He operated a grocery store in Whitewright for about 20 years, retiring in 1909. Mr. Smith was first married to Miss Minnie Russell, who died in 1910. In 1913 he was married to Mrs. America Frances White, who died in 1930. During recent years he has made his home with his children. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Whitewright. Surviving are two sons, Frank A. Smith of Whitewright and Charles F. Smith of Sherman; one daughter, Mrs. Don C. Fuller of Sherman; one sister, Mrs. J.D. Richey of Orangeville; and 4 grandchildren, Lodene and Don C. Fuller, Jr. of Sherman; Robert Smith of Los Angeles, California; and Norma Lou Smith of Whitewright.
