Willis A. Benedict 1830 - 1891 Sarah C. Benedict 1833 - 1915 s/o Willis A. Benedict The Whitewright Sun
Friday, July 9, 1915 pg. 2 CALLED HOME Mrs. Sara C. Benedict died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.F. Holland, early Tuesday morning after an illness of a long duration. Mrs. Benedict was born in Allen county, Kentucky, August 28, 1833. She moved to Texas with her husband, W.A. Benedict, in 1879, and settled in the Medlintown community, three miles southest of town. Later they moved to this city and were instrumental in every good movement for the betterment of this town. After his death, Mrs. Benedict made her home with her only daughter, Mrs. W.F. Holland. Mrs. Benedict joined the Baptist church early in life and was a charter member of the First Baptist church here and was the only charter member living at the time of her death. All who speak of Mrs. Benedict speak her praise. She was king and gentle, loving and true. To her children and grandchildren she was ever the center to which all might appeal for sympathy and aid; to neighbors and friends, she was a sympathetic counselor whose presence and words of cheer were ever bright beams of hope. Loved ones sorrow because this good woman walks with them no more, but there abides a memory of sweetness of life, of nobleness of purpose, of beauty of holiness that will live and flower in their lives and lead them on and on to nobler longings for usefullness here and a happy reunion on the other shore. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W.J. Epting, assisted by Rev. J.F. Fender, Tuesday afternoon at the residence, after which the remains were followed to the City Cemetery and laid to rest in the family plot.
