Whitewright Man Killed by Live Wire
P.B. Miller, lineman in the employ of the Whitewright Electric Company, was instantly killed at 3:25 o'clock Monday afternoon when he came in contact with a 2300-volt circuit.  He was working along on S. Bond street when the fatal accident happened.  The attention of occupants of nearby residences was attracted when the cracking flash of the deadly electrical current gripped its victim.  Help was quickly summoned and a Katy electrician making some repairs at the railway interlocking tower assisted Mr. Brodhead, owner of the electric system in lowering the body from its suspended a nd entangled position among the wires.  Physicians were called but the body did not respond to resuscitation efforts.
Mr. Miller went to work for Mr. Brodhead when extension of the service from this city to Trenton was commenced a few weeks ago.  He had been working on the South Bond street line for several days but had instructions.  Mr. Brodhead said to pull  the blocks disconnecting the current before entering upon his work but it appears the lineman did not deem this necessary for the work he was doing at the time he met his death, or possibly had forgotten to do so.  The nature of his injuries indicate that he was holding to a live w ire when his shoulder came in contact with the other companion wire, completing the circuit.  He was badly burned on the hand, face and shoulder.
The deceased is survived by a widow and one child, a baby daughter about 2 years old.  The family moved from Bogata, Texas about the first of the present year and lived on the farm which George Head cultivates just south of town.  He moved to town Monday of this week and spent the forenoon helping his wife arrange the household effects.  His father resides at Mt. Pleasant.  He had a sister residing at Bogata and is also survived by the following brothers: John Miller of Mt. Vernon; George of Fort Worth; Frank of Mt. Pleasant; Andy of Johnston; and J.F. Miller of Sherman.
The decedent was 30 years old.  He served 2 years in the late war and was on the firing line in France 28 days. In recognition of this service, the local post of the American Legion rendered their services in connection with the funeral and interment, which took place Tuesday afternoon at the City Cemetery here.  Rev. G.M. McNeilly, pastor of the Baptist Church, conducted the service, and the body was then laid to rest in accordance with the military rites of the American Legion.  Notwithstanding that many people of the town and community were drawn to other funeral services at the house, a large number gathered at the cemetery to pay their respects at the grave of the ex-service man.  Rev. McNeilly's words and military ceremonies of the American Legion were both fitting and impressive.
