The Whitewright Sun Thursday, September 4, 1947 pg. 4 Sherman - S.A. Scott Vittitoe, 71, formerly of this city, died at Los Angeles, California, Saturday after an illness of four months. He was born in Grayson County May 17, 1876 [sic], the son of Quince and Mary Vittitoe. He operated an overall factory here from 1910 to 1917, when he left for Los Angeles to enter the real estate business. His father gave the ground for Vittitoe Cemetery near Kentuckytown. He was a member of the Presbyterian church. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mary Durdey, Los Angeles; five nieces, Mrs. Dena Lambert, Mrs. Trula Hardwick and Mrs. Lucille Wagner, all of Sherman; Bettie Jo Holcomb of Tom Bean; and Mrs. Check Kilgore of Long Beach, California; six nephews, Morris Pennell, J.W. Pennell, and Marion Arnold, all of Sherman; Burns Pennell of Abilene; Emory Pennell of Denton; and Clifford Pennell of Colorado City. The funeral was held Wednesday at the Waldo Funeral Home with Dr. J.A. Ellis, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in Vittitoe Cemetery.
