Melissa Robbins 1854 - 1940 Julius A. Robbins 1855 - 1934 The Whitewright Sun Thursday, August 15, 1940 pg. 5 Mrs. Melissa Robbins, 85, died at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Oscar Brown, near Whitewright, after an illness of one month. Funeral services were conducted at the Vittitoe Cemetery near Kentuckytown at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday by the Rev. C. Chumbley of Howe and the Rev. E.P. Wootten of Whitewright. Grandsons who were pallbearers are Amos Grant, Morris Smith, J.W. and Julius Robbins, Raymond and Wesley Brown. Mrs. Robbins was born at Morgantown, Georgia October 4, 1854. She was married August 29, 1875 to J.A. Robbins, who died five years and eight months ago. To this union 12 children were born, five of them having died in infancy, and one daughter and one son having died several years ago. She had lived in this community since 1901, and was a member of the Kentuckytown Baptist Church. Surviving are two sons, W.A. Robbins of Abilene and Claude Robbins of Sherman; three daughters, Mrs. Brown, Mrs. J.F. Gant of Sherman, and Mrs. Maude Smith of Whitewright; 25 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Out-of-town person who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. A.B. Harmonson and Miss Urma Robbins of Keller; Miss Roberta Robbins of Abilene; Miss Alice Robbins, Morris Smith, Miss Betty Panky, Mrs. Juanita Wilcox, Mrs. Minnie Morris, and Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Robbins and family of Sherman; Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Sherod and family, Mrs. Ed Sherod and George Elrod of Bonham. Robbins of this community southeast of town died last Saturday and was buried Sunday at Vittitoe Cemetery.
