Thursday, August 8, 1957 pg. 1 Funeral services for William Cleveland Pheobus, 72, were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Earnheart chapel here, conducted by Gerald Cleveland, Church of Christ minister. Burial was in Vittitoe Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jack Yowell, Robert Yowell, Nyal Yowell, Claude Yowell, Grady Yowell and T.J. Yowell. Mr. Pheobus died at 4:50 a.m. Tuesday at his home in Tom Bean after a 3-years illness. Born September 11, 1884 in Grayson County, Mr. Pheobus was a son of John William and Nercis Pheobus. He was married on May 1, 1907 at Tom Bean to Miss Annie Hopper. He was a retired farmer, and a member of the Church of Christ. Surviving are his wife of Tom Bean; a daughter, Mrs. Marion Pennell of Tom Bean; 2 brothers, Charlie Pheobus of Whitewright and Clifford Pheobus of Tom Bean; 4 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. C.J. Graves and Rev. Wesley D. Thompson. Burial was in Vittitoe Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jess Smotherman, Spurgeon Teague, Raymond Stephens, Claude Lackey, Ernest Ryon, and Carl Odle. Mr. Pheobus died at 3:30 p.m. last Thursday in his home on Whitewright route 2, near Tom Bean. Born September 6, 1898, Mr. Pheobus was the son of the late John and Narcissus Pheobus. He married Miss Aline Pennell in 1918 at Tom Bean. He was a farmer. Surviving are his wife and a brother, Charlie Pheobus of Whitewright.
