Mrs. Rosa Rebecca Harris, 71 years of age on the 22nd of September, died at her home south of Kentuckytown Sunday morning, December 1, 1918.  She was stricken with apoplexy or some heart trouble Saturday night, but rallied and was much better during the night;  Sunday morning a recurring stroked resulted fatally.
The decendent is survived by her husband, Joe Harris, and the following children: Bedford Harris of Royce City; Elbert Harris of Gray county; Dr. Robert Harris and Miss Myrtle Harris of this community; also by a sister, Mrs. William Pennington of this city.
Mrs. Harris was a daughter of Uncle Christopher Sears, a pioneer settler of this section, who died in the late 70s; therefore, connected with a family of many descendants now residing in and near Whitewright.  The community will cherish the memory of this good woman who served so faithfully and well as a neighbor, friend, mother and wife, and whose consecrated life secured her eternal happiness in the realm beyond these mundane activities.
The funeral was conducted by Rev. I.E. Teague Monday afternoon at Vittitoe Cemetery where the body was laid to rest.

Joe Harris died at the Harris homestead southwest of Whitewright about four o'clock Monday morning, February 24, 1919.  His health and vitality had been on the decline for six months or longer, a condition natural to one of his advanced years.
Mr.  Harris had been a resident of Grayson County for fifty years and had a wide acquaintance.
He was born in Virginia October 12, 1838.  At the close of the Civil War, throughout which he served with the Confederacy, he came to Texas, and soon therafter was married to Miss Rosa Sears, who died on the first day of last December.
The surviving children are: Bedford Harris of Royse, Elbert Harris of Gray County, Dr. Bob Harris of Weatherford, Floyd and Miss Myrtle Harris of this community southwest of town.
Uncle Joe Harris was a member of the Presbyterian church and was considered in all respects a good man.  Some of his warmest friends and associates of his earlier days reside in Whitewright, and they speak of him in terms that give him a high and useful place in the citizenship of his state, county, and community.  Death is fast thinning the ranks of our Civil War veterans and history-making men, but their rugged honesty and unswerving regard for the right under all circumstances will prove a restraining and helpful influence on the generations now and to come.
Rev. J.F. Fender, assisted by Rev. I.E. Teague, conducted the funeral service Monday afternoon, followed by interment of the body at Vittitoe Cemetery.
