Chumbley went home November 28, 2014. She was welcomed by her Lord
Jesus Christ, her husband of 65 years, Joe Chumbley, her parents Gertie
Jay Skipworth Tate and Charlie James Skipworth, brothers Willard, J.C.,
and James and sister Nadine and many other loved ones who preceded her.
She is survived by her brother R.V. Tate of Mesquite, two daughters
and a son-in-law, seven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren
and a number of nieces and nephews. Juanita was born February 4, 1917 in Van Alstyne. She and Joe met Valentine's Day 1932, and were married December 26 of that same year. They had two daughters, Bobbie Jo and Carol Ann. Bobbie married James Tremain and gave them three grandchildren, Jana, James III, and Juanita, six great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Carol married L.C. Pursey and gave them four grandchildren, Sherry, Brenda, Vickie and Lance, eleven great-grandchildren and twelve great-great-grandchildren. Juanita was a remarkable woman. After her children started school, she took a job selling Stanley Products and soon became one of their top salespeople. When Joe was transferred to Huntsville, she taught herself typing and shorthand then got a job at the prison as a records clerk. She worked her way up and became the chief interviewer of all incoming prisoners. After both her daughters married, Juanita decided to enroll in college so she applied to Sam Houston but there was one big problem - she had not graduated from high school. Determined to get a college education, she persuaded the Dean to let her enroll on probation. She made the Dean's list every semester and graduated Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in Elementary Education then went on to get her Masters in Library Science. She and Joe accepted positions in Spring Branch, Texas, school district and remained there until mandatory retirement.
