Sam Griffin was born on November 8, 1952, in Tom Bean, Texas, son Wyatt Griffin and Jimmie Hunter Griffin and passed away Sunday, January 15, 2023 at Texoma Healthcare Center. He attended Tom Bean and Van Alstyne schools, graduating from Van Alstyne. Sam went on to enlist in the United States Air Force. After serving his country, he started work as a carpenter. After many years perfecting his trade, he worked his way up the ranks to construction superintendent.
He went on to create his own company, GriffCon, with his brother James Griffin. There he performed numerous construction contracts throughout the North Texas and West Texas areas. Upon redisposition of that company, he worked for Sam's Club/Walmart and other multi-national businesses. Sam was the construction project manager for over 23 completed job-site constructions in the U.S. and Mexico. Throughout the course of 17 industrious years, he culminated well over 5,175 jobs to American and Mexican citizens. He was a leader not only at home, but abroad. Any job site you would undoubtedly find him at, his colleagues and subordinates alike concluded to call him "The Sheriff".
This wasn't for his law-abiding self, but because of the values he brought day in and day out. He would never succumb to the norm of congratulations at the end of a long day's work. No, he would treat you as his best friend and bring you a case of Modelo free of charge. However, at the other end of that token, if he thought you had lethargic tendencies at the job site, you'd be working overtime for pennies on the dollar until the job was done. That was the man we all grew to love. Samuel Eugene Griffin never lowered his standards to what some may call ruthless. He was a man of determination, hard work, and humility that followed him until his last days. His bravado, high self-esteem, and the way he carried himself distinguished the man we knew and loved from anyone in the crowd. He was a man who enveloped those he knew with the highest statutes of selfless love, admiration, and care.
He wouldn't take a nickel he didn't deserve, but spited the man who wouldn't take a dollar from him in the same fashion. Those that knew Sam will be no stranger to the following quote: "A man ought to do what he thinks is best" Hondo (1953). That's just the kind of man Sam was. He upheld the highest traditions of honor, integrity, courage, and excellence in all he did for his country, his family, his friends, and lastly himself. A man of such humility that has nearly been eradicated. He bestowed dedication to his career to ensure that his family was 100% provided for in times that were tremendously difficult. He devoted the latter years of his life to God, his family, and his friends. He will be forever missed. Sam is survived by his daughter Amie Cruce and husband Chad of Denison, son Daniel Griffin of Accokeek, Maryland, daughter Morgan Griffin of Dallas, daughter Tracie Jones of Madill, grandchildren Mollie Rangel, Matthew Rangel, Laylah Quinteros, and Callie Carlton, sister Jean Sims of San Antonio, brother Charles Griffin of Denison, sister-in-law Florene Griffin, step-mother Lela Griffin, nephew John Griffin and wife Becky, nephew Jeff Sims and wife Niki, nieces Jana Castellano and Tabethia Griffin, and aunt Darlene Stevens.
He is preceded in death by his father Wyatt Griffin, mother Jimmie Griffin, brothers James Griffin and Richard Griffin, brother-in-law Joe Sims, and nephew Eddie Griffin.
