Bells - Jack Mercer passed away on December 20, 2017 after a courageous 20-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Jack was born July 15, 1950 in Enid, Oklahoma, son of James William Mercer and Phyllis Todd Mercer. His father was career Air Force and they lived in Oklahoma, Texas, Bermuda and Missouri before moving to Denison in 1963, Jack was a 1968 graduate of Denison High School. He married Woodye Gilliam on February 26, 1977 at Virginia Point Methodist Church. They celebrated 40 years of marriage this year with a trip to San Diego and Maui. He was an Electronic Technician at Texas Instruments for 32 years working at the Sherman and Dallas locations. Jack was the kind of person that could repair almost anything and loved figuring out how something worked. In his leisure time he enjoyed time at the family cabin on Lake Texoma, traveling and spending time with friends and family. His children and grandchildren were the light of his life. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bells, and the Texoma Em-maus Community. For many years he was an assistant scout master of Bells Boy Scout Troop 41. He is survived by his wife; daughter, Edie Howell and son-in-law, Chris, of Durant, Oklahoma; sons, John Mark Mercer of Kingston, Oklahoma; and Jason Mercer and daughter-in-law, Emma, of Durham, North Carolina; mother, Phyllis Mercer of Denison; mother-in-law, Frances Gilliam of Bells; brother, Joe Mercer and wife, Katherine; sister, Linda Adams and husband, Wayne; brothers-in-law, Barney Gilliam and wife, Sherry; John Gilliam and wife, Paula; grandchildren, Christian, Chelsea, Collin, Jordan, Courtian, Johnathan, Joshua, Sydney, and Addie; special cousin, Becky; nephew, Bradley and niece, Tiffany; special friends, Brenda and Gary; numerous other family and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his father; and father-in-law, Don Gilliam. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, December 27, 2017 at the Mullican-Little Funeral Home chapel, with Rev. Wally Butts officiating. Jack's wish to be cremated and a private family burial followed at a later date.
