“Irene” Ferguson of Van Alstyne, TX went home to be with the Lord on
December 31, 2022, at the grand age of 101. She was the oldest of three
children born January 04, 1921, in Denison, TX to Joseph
& Fannie Harnest. She grew up in Denison, TX where she met Charlie “Chock” Ferguson whom she married on March 25, 1939, in Durant, OK. They would later have four children JoAnn, Charlie E “Sonny”, Kenny, and Margaret Ferguson. She worked at Pool Manufacturing for 20 years as a seamstress then went on to work at Bakers Dozen where she retired. After retirement, she enjoyed crocheting, gardening, and raising her many dachshunds. Once she was no longer able to live independently, she was a resident of a few assisted living centers including Hilltop Haven in Gunter, Texas, and Meadowbrook Care Center in Van Alstyne, TX her final place. She was known for her spunky personality, and daily routine of getting all “dolled up”. She also enjoyed taking care of the plants and flowers, listening to country music, and her faith in the Lord. She will always be remembered for bringing the “goody box” to Christmas for all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to pick something special out. Irene was preceded in death by her mother Fannie, her father Joseph, her siblings, sister Vada Ford and brother Gene Harnest, her sons Sonny & Kenny, and her daughter JoAnn. She is survived in death by her daughter Margaret Miller; daughter-in-law Genece Ferguson wife of Kenny Ferguson; grandchildren Terry Calhoun, wife Terri, Brian Ferguson, wife Jamie, Carrie Ferguson, Kim Koch, husband Brain; step-grand-daughter Brandi Rose, husband Tim and step-grandson Michael Ferguson; great-grandchildren Shanda Ferguson, husband Steven, Casi Lea, husband Kris, Charlie Calhoun, wife Randa, Danielle Ferguson, Braden and Morgan Ferguson, Abby Rhodes, Kevin Horn, Kenyon Koch, wife Maggi, Jordan Hartung, husband Nick, Kamren and BK Koch; step- great-grandchildren Bayli Martin, husband Matthew, and Ashlyn Hogue; great-great-grandchildren Averie Meraz, husband Benjamin, Fallon Lindner, husband Luke, Lauren Ferguson, Taylor Lea and fianc Sam Rhodes, Joe, Kat and Nick Lea, Cainen, Cash and Creed Calhoun, Freya Koch; step-great-great-grandchildren Grayson Martin, Kenzi and Kylie Hogue. Graveside services will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023, at 1:00 pm at the Van Alstyne Cemetery with Pastor Mark Fletcher officiating, and interpreter Cheryl King-Garrett. Flowers can be sent to Scoggins Funeral Home in Van Alstyne, TX. Pallbearers will be Terry Calhoun, Charlie Calhoun, Steven Ferguson, Joe Lea, Brian Ferguson, and Braden Ferguson.
