Friday, May 4, 1911 pg. 4 DIED EARLY THIS MORNING AT HOME OF HER SON IN FAIRVIEW Mrs. Martha A Davis, 59 years of age, for more than 30 years a resident of Grayson county, wife of N.M. Davis of Van Alstyne, died at the home of her son, Samuel W. Davis, in Fairview addition to Sherman, at 2 o'clock this morning after an illness of several days' duration. Mrs. Davis came to this city about 2 weeks ago to visit her son when she became ill and has since that time gradually grown worse until the end came. The decedent, besides her husband, is survived by 3 children, as follows: Samuel W. Davis of Sherman; Robert E. David of Bowie and Mrs. Ollon Hopkins of Ft. Worth. Funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock this afternoon at the home of her son by Dr. T.A. Wharton, pastor of the First Presbyterian church. At 3 o'clock the body, accompanied by a number of relatives and friends, was shipped by Haynes & Sporer, undertakers, to Van Alstyne on a special interurban car where the burial was had this afternoon. The News of the Courts Court Adjourned Judge B.L. Jones of the 15th District Court this morning adjourned his court on account of the death of Mrs. Martha Davis, mother of Sam Davis, stenographer for Judge Jones. Davis, who died Thursday morning at the home of her son, Samuel Davis, in Fairview, was held yesterday afternoon and services were conducted by Rev. T. A. Wharton, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, after which the body was shipped to Van Alstyne by Haynes & Sporer, undertakers, where the burial took place. Dallas Morning News October 24, 1943 Van Alstyne Funeral Set for N.M. Davis Van Alstyne, Texas, Oct. 23 (AP) - Funeral services will be held here Sunday for N.M. Davis, 99, Civil War Veteran and pioneer resident of Grayson County, who died in a Waco hospital Friday after an illness of four years. A native of North Carolina, Davis joined the Confederate Army in 1861. He fought in the Battle of Gettysburg. For two years of the war he was a Yankee prisoner.
