ALSTYNE - Funeral service was held
Monday at 3 p.m. in the First Baptist
Church in Van Alstyne
for Mrs. Nannie Earthman Cotten, 83, who died Sunday at 2:40 a.m. in a Sherman hospital. Rev. Jimmy Duckworth and Rev. J.I.Gregory, Baptist ministers, officiated. Burial was in Van Alstyne Cemetery, directed by Flesher Funeral Home. Mrs. Cotton was born in Mississippi, a daughter of the late Louis and Mary Savage Earthman. Survivors are four daughters, Mrs. Zerah Baker of Denison, Mrs. Logan Drye of McAllen, Mrs. Gene Lindsey of Anna, Mrs. W. P.Brook of Beaumont; three sons, J.L. and Lloyd Cotten of Lamesa and Garvin Cotten of Van Alstyne; 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, T.T.Earthman of Merkel. services for T. C. (Chris) Cotten were
held at the First Baptist Church here
Thursday morning at 10 o'clock,
conducted by the pastor, Rev.
J.O.Duckworth, assisted by Rev. Herman
F. Mayo, pastor of the First Methodist
Church. Arrangements were under the
direction of the Fox-Flesher Funeral
Home. Mr. Cotten moved from McAllen to
Rosenberg Tuesday, and died suddenly
from a heart attack. He had been in
ill health for a number of years.
Active pallbearers were Stone
Marshall, Jr., Floyd Carter, Joe
Baker, Guy D. Johnston, Grady Douglas
and Howard Yoder. Honorary pallbearers
were W.A.Da_er, R.C.Slagle, J.E.Brice,
Les Huckaby, Jesse Gleaves, Earl
Whitaker, Gus Lewallen, Norman Gray,
Clyde Douglas and Cecil Miller.
Interment was in the City Cemetery.
Mr. Cotten was born near Van Alstyne on Oct. 14, 1893, the son of Mrs. Nannie Earthman Cotten and the late J.D.Cotten. He was married to Miss Dorothy Hawkins of McAllen. He was in the automobile business in McAllen for a number of years. He was a member of the Baptist Church. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. T.C.Cotten; by three daughters, Miss Coral June Cotten, Mrs. Joe Linxwiler of Sherman, and Mrs. Joyce Reed of Dallas; by three brothers, Garvin Cotten of Van Alstyne, J.L.Cotten of Brownfield, and L.A.Cotten of Lamesa; by four sisters, Mrs. Gene Lindsey of Anna, Mrs. W.T.Crook of Beaumont, Mrs. Logan Dryer of McAllen, and Mrs. Victor Baker of Denison; and by four grandchildren.
