Hollie O. Carney 6 April 1919 - 27 July 2002 Verna M. Carney 25 November 1922 - 27 April 2013 Verna Mae Carney age 90 of Van Alstyne, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2013 at her residence. She
was born November 28, 1922 in Grayson County to Thomas Gasill and Ida Hill Gaskill. She married Hollie Carney on August 13, 1938 in Grayson County Texas. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2013, 11:00AM at Scoggins Funeral Home in Van Alstyne with Holly Gaskill Bandel officiating. Burial will follow at the Van Alstyne Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00PM Monday April 29, 2013 at the funeral home. She was preceded in death by her husband Hollie Carney, son Billy Carney, grandson Steven Walker, sisters Jean Raifsnider, Mary Williams, brothers Floyd Gaskill, Mancil Gaskill, Carl Gaskill, Ray Gaskill, and W.L. Gaskill. She is survived by her children son, Robert Carney and wife Cathey of Ledbetter, daughters Patricia Barton and husband Andy of Van Alstyne, Linda Foley and husband Don of Ft. Worth , Carol Kennedy and husband Eddie of Tom Bean, Pam Walker and husband Ronnie of Huntington Beach Ca., brother Tom Gaskill of Houston, sisters Loy Burgess of Houston, Loraine Sekula of Hurst,16 grandchildren Wendy Smith, Stephanie Prine, Andrea Barton, Rebecca Sullivan, Jennifer Devenney, Kim Rosier, Josh Carney, Lee Carney, Caitie Carney, Amy Beall, Lisa Harrellson, Ricky Beall, Chris Kennedy, Keith Kennedy, Jessica Welton, Hollie Walker, and 21 great grandchildren. She had a career as a homemaker, seamstress, and retired from Texas Instruments In recent times Verna was a faithful member of the Van Alstyne Senior Center’s lunch program and afternoon games. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Van Alstyne, and the Eastern Star. In November we celebrated Verna’s 90th birthday event attended by many family and friends. If desired memorial donations may be made to the Van Alstyne Senior Center. A special thank you to “Heart to Heart Hospice” and the many friends and family who visited and sent cards and prayers.
