FALL PROVES FATAL TO PICKENS BOWEN, 86
Funeral services for Pickens Bowen, 86, who died in a Sherman hospital Wednesday morning were held at the Van Deren Funeral Home in Van Alstyne at 2 p.m. Thursday.
Mr. Bowen died from the effects of a broken leg suffered last week.  Rev. Frank Johnston, pastor of the Van Alstyne Baptist church, officiated and burial was in Van Alstyne Cemetery beside the body of his wife, who died March 10, 1910.  Services at the cemetery were conducted by Howe Lodge No. 430, A.F. & A.M., of which he was a life member.
Mr. Bowen was born in South Carolina December 1, 1854, a son of Reese and Elizabeth Bowen.  He came to Texas as a young man and settled in the Howe community where he had since lived.  He was married to Miss Betty Whitaker December 19, 1878. Surviving are a son, Walter Bowen of Howe; a grandson, Walter Bowen, Jr. of Howe; and 2 granddaughters, Mrs. Truett Davenport of Howe and Mrs. Doss Neely of Hobart, Oklahoma.
