A
very accomplished carpenter went to meet the Master Carpenter May 20,
2023 as Rickey Brown passed away with his children at his side at his
home in Van Alstyne after a brave battle with cancer.
Rickey was born on November 18, 1951 in Westminster, Texas to Martin and Joy Murl Brown. He graduated from Westminster High School where he met his wife of over 45 years, Valerie Brown. They were married in July 1970 and had two children, Rickey Jr. and Tina. The family later moved to Van Alstyne to a home that Rickey built and had lived in for the last 40 years. Rickey spent most of his career as a carpenter, but he also enjoyed woodworking as a hobby and in recent years had found a love of turning one-of-a-kind bowls. He was an intense worker and meticulous perfectionist whether he was building a house or a piece of furniture. Rickey dearly loved his family and friends. His two grandchildren Jayden Potter and Katie Sue Brown were the light of his life. He was never happier in his later years than when he was out fishing with Jayden. Rickey was very involved in his children’s and their friends' lives as they were growing up. He found much happiness and joy attending and supporting all the activities they pursued. This became clear after his passing with all the well-wishes and reminiscing about the good times had by all at the Brown home before Panther sporting events. Rickey's family has heard many times that, “They don’t make 'em like that anymore.”, which brings much pride to the hearts of his loved ones. He was a warm, friendly, generous, and simple man who loved his family, his work, and God. Rickey will truly be missed by all he knew. Preceding Rickey in death were is mother Joy Murl Brown, father Martin Brown, and wife, Valerie Brown. Surviving are his brother Ronnie and wife Nadine, sister Tammie and husband Steve, son Rickey Jr, wife Christa & granddaughter Katie Sue, and daughter Tina Potter and husband Justin & grandson Jayden. The Brown family would like thank Heart to Heart Hospice, his nurse, Sam, and his other wonderful caregivers. The family will receive friends from 11:00AM to 12:00PM Friday, May 26, 2023 at Scoggins Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at the Van Alstyne Cemetery.
