Paul Leach Denton
25 September 1945 - 10 September 2020

Paul Leach Denton, age 74, was born on September 25, 1945, in Dallas, Texas. He passed away September 10, 2020 in McKinney, Texas. He was the son of W.A. and Leafy Denton. Paul grew up in Van Alstyne, Texas, participating in sports, FFA and other school activities. He was a graduate of Van Alstyne High School and East Texas State University (Texas A&M, Commerce). He served his country in the U.S. Army Reserve. He retired from Kaiser Aluminum, Sherman, with 43 years of service.
Paul married Gwen Lay, his high school sweetheart, and had one son, Danny. However, the Dentons have big hearts and their family grew to five with the addition of their sons, Brian and Chris. In addition to his wife, he is survived by their sons, daughters-in- law, Tisha, Julie, and Kris. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren- Caine, Jacob, Hannah, Matthew, Katie, Reilly, and Gracie; one sister, Diane Wall and two nephews.
Paul dedicated his life to the Lord and was a member of Elmont Baptist Church. Although our hearts are heavy, we know he is no longer in pain.
The family wishes to thank all of those who loved Paul and knew him. We welcome you to honor Paul with us Saturday from 1:00PM to 5:00PM at Scoggins Funeral Home for a come and go visitation and at Van Alstyne Cemetery at 2:30 on Sunday, September 13, 2020.

Paul Denton died last night.
First, before Gwen, just like he wanted.
Paul worked at and retired from Kaiser Industries, in Sherman , Texas until a variety of illnesses required that he take disability. The disability, like life, was hard on Paul, but in good times, and there were many, he could still laugh and smile and make you feel welcome.
Paul married Gwen Lay, His high school sweetheart. Together they had one biological son, Danny. But that wasn’t enough family for Paul.
Paul was a good man. When the time came in their lives when Brian and Chris needed a home and family, Paul opened his Heart, Home and Family, to include them, too. He provided each of his sons with opportunity to go to school. When life kicked his family in the teeth and changed Brian’s life forever, Paul held the door open for Brian to come home . He supported him, encouraged him and prayed for Brian’s healing.
He made sure that Brian had what he needed.
Paul took great joy in his daughters added to the family, as each son began to spread their wings. Julie, Tisha, and now Chris, were welcomed by Paul and the door opened wider.
The addition of daughters in love also brought grandchildren! Paul treasured the time with those children, too. He treasured teaching them how to fish, and the fishing trips to Missouri.
He loved the big family holidays at Thanksgiving and Christmas. He loved for everyone to gather at his table. Sometimes laughing, sometimes playing cards or games, or even in the saddest of times, sometimes sharing tears of comfort.
Paul included friends as family too! He opened his heart and door to the Irish Family. He loved my children and me. When our family broke, Paul never passed judgement as many did. He just opened his arms and drew us into his family too.

That’s just who he was!
If you had Paul Denton for a friend, you were blessed!
A friend who came for a season, and stayed for a lifetime. I shall miss him. I will be here for this friend-family.
Paul Denton died last night. I am sad.
He woke up healed of that hideous disease that took him from us, but also from all the other infirmities that caused him so much grief.
Thank you , Lord, for Paul, Gwen and their family. Stay with them and give them strength to face the days ahead.
