John Charles Chapman 7 April 1939 - 28 February 2020 Dorothy Janette Blakely Chapman 27 February 1941 - Van Alstyne, Texas - John Charles Chapman, 80, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 28, 2020 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas. He was born April 6, 1939 in Van Alstyne, Texas, son of Johnny Rufus Chapman and Iva Bell Chapman.
He proudly graduated from Van Alstyne High School in 1957. He married the love of his life, Janette Blakely, on September 24, 1960 at the First Methodist Church in Van Alstyne. They had 2 children, Rajonia and Greg. John worked as a self-employed machinist and supported his family with said work. John was a natural problem-solver and mathematician. He loved working with his hands, and spent his free time fixing things, or finding something to fix. John was an avid gun enthusiast and always had a trusty pocket knife with him. John was the greatest fan of Van Alstyne sports. It was a rare occasion to not see John in the bleachers, stands or sidelines rooting for his beloved Panthers. Family and loyalty were not mere words to John. They were an idea that he lived by. In John's later years, he adored spending time with his grandchildren. He took them to school, taught them to drive, and introduced them to their first lessons in firearm safety. John Charles Chapman is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Margaret Chapman Davis and her husband, Charles Davis. John Charles Chapman is survived in death by his wife; daughter, Rajonia Chapman; his grandchildren, Meredith Carnley Tillett and husband, Ryan Scott Tillett; John Tyler Carnley; and Clifton Garrett Carnley; and one great-grandchild, Rose Blakely Tillett. Services for John were held Monday morning, March 2, 2020 at Scoggins Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Charles Morris officiating.
