Christine Hix of Van Alstyne passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman, Texas, with her grandson by her side.
Christine was born in Gunter, Texas, daughter of Golden and Millie Gentry on November 29, 1923. She married J.D. Hix on October 11, 1943 in McKinney, Texas. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She spent many years as an active member of the First Baptist Church of Van Alstyne and always enjoyed singing in the church choir. She was best know for her immaculate yard and beautiful garden which she maintained and worked in daily until she had to be placed in a care facility. Almost anyone who drove through Van Alstyne would see her relentlessly hoeing weeds or planting flowers in her front yard even after she was confined to a wheelchair. Christine is survived by son Kenneth Hix and wife, Elaine; daughter, Sandra Metcalf; sister, Yvonna and husband, Billy Morrison; grandson, Morgan and wife, Sydney Metcalf; granddaughters Angie Hayden and husband, Scott; Michelle McCarly and husband, Steve; 6 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at Scoggins Funeral Home in Van Alstyne with Bro. Jimmy Tarrant officiating. Burial followed at Van Alstyne Cemetery.
