Kenneth Allen Matthias, 87, of Van Alstyne, Texas, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 19, 2019 at his residence in Van Alstyne, Texas. Kenneth was born in Reading, Pennsylvania, son of Kenneth R. and Miriam Matthias.
Kenneth married the love of his life, Latane Moffett, on January 21, 1966 and were happily married for over 53 years. Kenneth proudly served his country for 21 and a half years in the United States Air Force. He was deployed to Thailand, Korea, Vietnam and retired from the United States Air Force in 1973. He also worked for Chrysler Boats and for Fisher Control until his retirement in 1994. Kenneth was a great dad to 6 wonderful children and was always doing for others before doing for himself. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, music, camping and traveling. Kenneth touched so many people and will be missed by all who knew him. Kenneth was greeted Sunday by his sweet angel, Frankie Griffith; his parents; and his son-in-law, Billy Kemp. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife; children, Brenda Matthias of Azusa, California; Sheryl Musick of Austin, Texas; Lola McKinney and husband, Hopper, of Calera, Oklahoma; Mary Kemp of Van Alstyne, Texas; and Billy Moffett and wife, Roberta, of Howe, Texas; 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. A celebration of Kenneth's life was held Friday afternoon, May 24, 2019 at Scoggins Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jason Norton officiating. Burial followed at Van Alstyne Cemetery where Kenneth received full Military Honors by the United States Air Force. emotional or mental qualities necessary in dealing with situations or
events that are difficult, and the capacity of an object or person to
withstand great force or pressure. It is a word that has many different
definitions, but we can proudly say that the woman we celebrate and
remember today was the epitome of the word “strength.” For everyone
that knew her, we can all agree that she was one of the strongest and
toughest women that we’ve ever had the privilege of knowing.
Latane Matthias, 84, passed away on June 10th, 2023 at Wilson N Jones hospital in Sherman, TX. Latane was a strong, loving, caring, giving, sassy, ornery woman who loved her family deeply. Her family was her greatest joy in life and she always did her best to make everyone feel that. She was always saying how proud she was of us all. Latane was born to J.R. Craver and Annie Laura Walsh, She was the 2nd born of 6 children. She is survived by two daughters. Lola McKinney and husband Hopper of Calera, OK. And Mary Atkins and husband Mark of V.A. TX. Two sisters, Thena Johnson and Ida Edmonds both of Van Alstyne. Latane had 11 grandchildren, Kenneth, Rickey, Jeremy, Shannon, Karla, Earl, Billy, Sara, Scott, Tommy, and Greg. 22 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Latane was preceded in death by her husbands Kenneth Matthias, William Moffett and Frankie Lewis, daughter Frankie Griffeth, son Billy Moffett, II. and Son in Law Billy Kemp. Latane was also preceded by her parents, one sister, Elizabeth Hammonds and two brothers Bud and Glen Craver. Latane was a one-of-a-kind woman, the matriarch of our family. We will remember her smile, her laugh, her love and her silly jokes. Compassionate God, we thank you for the life of Latane (mom, sister, aunt and granny) who finished this life loving you and trusting in your promise. We thank you for the life and grace you gave her and the peace in which she now rests. Have compassion on our grief, Lord, and fill our hearts with thanksgiving to you. Services will be held at 2:00PM Thursday, June 15, 2023 at Scoggins Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jason Norton officiating. Burial will follow at the Van Alstyne Cemetery.
