Tuesday, September 24, 1940 pg. 1 Fred P. Echols, 65, a WPA supervisor and time keeper for 5 years and a resident of Denison 1 year, died suddenly Monday at 4:15 p.m. at his home, 530 West Morgan street. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Van Alstyne with Rev. Lloyd Mottley officiating. Interment was at Van Alstyne cemetery, Short-Murray directing. Deceased was born at Mantua, Collin county, in 1875, son of Mr. and Mrs. John T. Echols but was reared and educated in Van Alstyne where he was a druggist for several years before accepting his WPA position. Saying he was ill, Mr. Echols left his job just before noon Monday to return home for a rest. He died a few hours later. He was a member of the First Christian church of Van Alstyne and was unmarried. Surviving are 2 brothers, F.M. Echols, mayor and city manager of Whitewright and W.H. Echols of Stillwater, Oklahoma.
