Richard Edwin Butler, 48, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Anna, Texas on April 1, 2019. He was born on July 12, 1970 to Lynda Rae Rivenburg and Earl Edwin Butler in Merriam, Kansas. He met his forever dad, Charlie Stevens, when he was 5.
He grew up in Big Sandy, Texas alongside his sister, Lori Stevens. He graduated from Big Sandy High School in 1988. He attended Kilgore college and than later attended Stephen F. Austin University. He married Michelle Grubbs in 1994 and they had 2 amazing daughters, Brooke and Bailey Butler. In 2005, he married Carrie Wasson and gained 2 more wonderful children, Patricia and Patrick Wesson. They have called him Dad for over 14 years, because he chose to love and care for them unconditionally. Rick and Carrie had 2 more little ones together, Chayse and Richard "Brett" Butler, which completed their family of 8. Rick loved his family first and foremost and did everything he could to protect them. His compassion for helping others made him a friend to all. He was employed at Nissan of McKinney for 11 years as a sales manager, where he shined. Over the last decade, a disability overcame him and in 2017, he was finally able to stay at home, trying to get well. He always put on a brave face for his family, but he was in pain most days. He was still helpful to everyone he loved, doing little things for each of them to make them happy. This gave him peace and comfort to be there for them. He was a fan of most sports, but really loved the Dallas Cowboys and the Dallas Stars. He watched old westerns, loved to cook, liked the game of poker and was a history buff. He spent his time being weatherman Dad, playing video games, taking his children to school every single morning and loving his wife more than she knew. He is survived by his wife, Carrie Michelle Butler, of Anna, Texas; and his 6 children, Trish Wasson of Anna; Patrick Wasson of Anna; Brooke Butler of Melissa; Bailey Butler, Chayse Butler, both of Anna and Brett Butler of Anna. His mother and stepfather, Lynda and Harold Ditto of Olathe, Kansas; sister, Lori Stevens of Lenexa, Kansas; 3 nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Stevens; and grandparents, Edwin and Lillian Rivenburg.
