Brian K. Hendricks, 54, of Van Alstyne, Texas died September 2.
Brian was born in San Antonio, Texas, August 27, 1964. His parents, Herb and Pat Hendricks, moved their family to Van Alstyne in 1974, just as Brian was starting fifth grade and while his dad completed active duty in the United States Air Force at Altus AFB, Oklahoma. Brian attended grade school, middle school, and graduated from Van Alstyne High School in 1982. He was active in Scouting, made the high school football and track teams, and was a member of the National Honor Society. After completing an Electrician’s Apprenticeship, he went to work with Oscar Mayer in Sherman and later for Aldinger Company, in Dallas, where he worked 24 years as Systems Engineer. Brian's expertise in his profession was recognized throughout the industry. He routinely received calls for assistance from major companies across the country. While working full time and raising a family, Brian achieved his life-long dream of graduating college with a degree in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Dallas. Brian married his wonderful wife Jamie Everheart in 1995 and together they raised two truly awesome kids. Katie and Kevin grew up attending Van Alstyne schools, excelled in their studies, were members of the Panther Band and graduated from Van Alstyne High, just like their dad. Katie (21) is a senior at Tarleton State University, and Kevin (20) is a junior at Northwestern State, Louisiana. Brian was a tremendous asset to the Van Alstyne community, volunteering where needed and freely gave his time with the VA Friends of the Library, the monthly Friends of the Library Breakfast and annual Booksale. Brian loved Jesus and His people. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church Choir and enjoyed singing in the FUMC Christmas Cantatas as well as working with the Youth Group. Brian’s true passion in life was Scouting. He began his Scouting adventure in 1976, as a young Webelos in Van Alstyne’s Troop 44. Troop 44 has been in existence for 105 years and is the 3rd oldest troop in the state of Texas and 5th oldest troop in the nation. Brian’s dedication to Troop 44 and Scouting never wavered and his involvement in Boy Scout leadership encompassed 25 amazing years. Brian was a Cub Master for five years and Troop 44’s Scout Master for nine years. Under his leadership, Brian oversaw the conversion of the old Boy Scout Hut to the current Troop 44 Historical Museum, as well as the move to the new Boy Scout Hut. Brian most recently took on the role of Troop Historian. In its 105 years, 53 Scouts earned the prestigious Eagle Scout rank. Twenty-four of these scouts earned their rank with Brian as their Scout Master and mentor. Brian's fight against cancer began with his diagnosis February 27, 2017. He endured radiation treatment and two rounds of chemo, always telling friends and family, "this is just another battle in the war." Brian won his last battle September 2nd, and is now at peace, loved and remembered by all who knew him. Brian is survived by his parents, Herb and Pat Hendricks, wife Jamie, children, Katie and Kevin, and his brothers, Bob and Bill.
