Daniel 2:23
I thank and praise you, O God of my fathers.
He reveals deep and hidden things, He knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with Him. I thank and praise you O God of my fathers
You have given me wisdom and power.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

JoAnn Cavender gave her time and life to studying the word of God and sharing it with others. She began learning and singing about Jesus at the Christian church in Van Alstyne Texas as a baby. It was a natural thing for JoAnn to start a conversation about her love of the Lord to a complete stranger. It is unimaginable to count how many unsuspecting people were led to Jesus by JoAnn just doing what came natural for her.
Born June 30,1933, God called JoAnn home January 4, 2021, after a long illness that had kept her homebound for several years. JoAnn grew up in Van Alstyne on a farm with her mother Glydle Mabel, dad Cecil Lorus and brother Robert Wayne Thorton.
She graduated from Van Alstyne high school, then soon after married her childhood sweetheart, Luther Delano Cavender. They had three daughters Joanna Kay, D’Anna Lee, and Kimberly Lynn. In between raising three children and running a household, JoAnn managed to become a top salesman at Mary Kay cosmetics and had the pink Cadillac to prove it! JoAnn also worked at TI for several years where she worked her way up to a position of importance. After many years in Plano the Cavenders moved back to their hometown Van Alstyne when Delano retired and they became members of the First Methodist church.
It was at church where JoAnn taught a Bible class to a group of women who bonded over the years of study to become lifelong friends.
Her devotion to the study of Gods word and ability to share that with others gave her the wisdom and strength to survive the tragedy of losing two of her daughters, Joanna Kay and Kimberly Lynn. Then soon after, her dear husband Delano passed. Seven years later she lost her precious grandson Christopher Daniel Bower, who was a very important love and comfort in her life. JoAnn’s life after losing a large part of her family was spent studying and praying for others and patiently waiting to join her loved ones.
JoAnn is survived by her daughter D’Anna Cavender Bower, granddaughter Crystal Walker, husband Mike, great-grandchildren Trenton Michael and Kaylee Fiona.
The funeral service is Saturday at 2 PM at Scoggins Funeral Home Chapel. Social distancing and wearing mask required. For those who cannot attend in person the service will be online at a later date.
Service are under the direction of Scoggins Funeral Home & Crematory, 637 W. Van Alstyne, Pkwy. Van Alstyne, TX; 75495.
