February 7, 1985 Services for Joyce Ashley, 55, of Van Alstyne were held Jan. 31 in the Flesher Funeral Home with burial in Van Alstyne Cemetery. She died Jan. 29 at her home. Mrs. Ashley was born in Texas, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Lane, and married Jess Ashley Sept. 20, 1952 in Sedalia. She was a bookkeeper for the First National Bank of Van Alstyne and a member of the Elmont Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, daughter, Marsha Parish of Howe; sisters, Willadee Edwards and Geraldine Anderson of Van Alstyne and Elwanda Webster of Plano; brother, Weldon Lane of Van Alstyne; and a grandchild. Lee Ashley, 89, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday
November 14, 2016 in McKinney, Texas. Jess was born on September 5,
1927 in Weston, Texas, the son of Harlan and Mossie Ashley. He married
Myrtle Joyce Ashley on September 18, 1952. He was employed for 35 years
by Frank Avent at the Western Auto Store in Van Alstyne. Jess
enjoyed his many years of employment at Grayson-Collin Electric
Cooperative. He was deeply dedicated to his job and all his fellow
employees, who also considered him a special friend.
Jess was a devoted Christian, who lived his life in a Godly manner, and this was evident to all who met him. He and Joyce established and built The Bible Church of Van Alstyne, where he led singing for many years. Singing and listening to Gospel music was his favorite passtime. Jess was a member of the Elmont Baptist Church. The light of Jess’s life was his daughter and granddaughter, who loved him deeply. He is survived by his daughter Marsha Parish and husband Steve of Van Alstyne, granddaughter Sarah Grace Stapel and husband Kolby of Melissa, brother H.N. Ashley of Garland, sisters: Sue Justice and husband Delbert of Allen, Mary Murphy of Leonard, Christine Rollins of McKinney, and many nieces and nephews. Preceding Jess in death was his beloved wife Joyce, his parents, his brother Coyte Ashley, and sisters: Hazel Reed, Linnie V. Walden, Gwen Christian, and Joyce Brashears. Funeral services will be held at Scoggins Funeral Home in Van Alstyne on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev Jerry Scott and Rev. Jim Poole officiating. Family visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Van Alstyne Cemetery following the service. The family wishes to give a special thanks to Anchor of Hope Hospice and the employees of Grand Brook Home in McKinney for their excellent care, and family and friends who showed their love and concern during his illness.
