The Sunday Gazetteer
Sunday, November 19, 1911 pg. 3 Wm. F. Bennett, who had been a resident of Denison for the past thirty-eight years, died at Van Alstyne last Sunday, aged 64. For the past year he had been making his home with his daughter, Mrs. Mamie Lewis, at Van Alstyne. He came to Denison from Fort Smith, Arkansas, in the early days. He was a very prosperous merchant in 1873; in fact the Bennetts did a good share of the business of the city. He was always prominent until he became afflicted with a disease that prevented him from free locomotion. Mr. Bennett leaves quite a large family. Jodie Bennett, who is superintendent of the Illinois Central, is his son; Mrs. A.G. Reynolds and Mrs. Lewis, daughters; and a daughter teaching in the Bloomfield Academy; also a son who is connected with the U.S. Clothing House. Mr. Bennett was buried at Van Alstyne.
