William F. Walker 29 October 1922 - 3 November 1997 Orpha
Allen Walker, 99, of Dallas, Texas passed away December 17, 2020. She
was born rural Galatin County, Illinois to Wiley B. Allen and Stella K.
Newton. The family moved to Blandville, Kentucky before she was 10
years of age. Shortly after graduating from Blandville High School she
moved to San Francisco, California and joined her mother there. She
worked at the U.S. Navy Station on Treasure Island in a civilian
capacity performing administrative duties. After the onset of WWII she
worked in a Rosie the Riveter position in South San Francisco.
During this time, she met her future husband William Fred Walker, who was on shore leave from his pilot duties with the U.S. NAVY. Orpha and William were married on May 8th, 1947 in San Diego, California. Orpha and William had 4 children: Calvin, John, Dallas and Alexis. When Commander William Walker retired from the U.S. Navy, the family moved to Richardson, Texas. Orpha was kind and generous in words and actions. She was known and loved by many. Orpha loved her family dearly and she worked several jobs over the years to help support our family. She excelled at southern cooking and there was always room for one more person at our dinner table. When her children’s’ friends found themselves in need of help, she was quick to offer a place to stay and gentle words. She is preceded in death her husband William Fred Walker and her siblings Ishmael, Martha, Mary Lou, and Patsy. Orpha had two very special friends in Joyce Rothermel and Roger Yancey who loved Orpha dearly for many years. Orpha is survived by her 4 children and her grandchildren Dylan Walker, Luke Walker, and Clint Walker. She was also survived by her grandbaby Jolee Walker. A graveside service will be held at 1:00PM Sunday, December 20, 2020 at the Van Alstyne Cemetery. A celebration of life will follow at Scoggins Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00PM with Rev.
