Sarah
Lou Curry was born on April 21, 1942 in
Traskwood Arkansas to Ruth and
Arlin Landreth. Sarah was raised in a large
family with eight brothers
and four sisters.
Mom was a
caring and loving woman.
She helped many people when she could. She
loved flower’s and she tried
to plant enough flowers to make the whole
world a better place. She had
so many flower beds in the yard to mow
around that it would take 2
day’s just to get the yard mowed.
Mom absolutely
loved to go fishing
anytime, anywhere with anyone that would go
with her. It was proven
throughout the years that she could out fish
Dad, but he didn't care,
that was their time together away from the
rest of the world and they
went as often as possible. It also gave mom
a good excuse to have a
family fish fry and bring all the family
together.
She was the
mother of 3 and
stepmother to 2. She loved to have family
parties. She was known for
her dinner rolls. This was her way of
getting people to arrive early so
they could be there for that first batch of
hot roll’s to be pulled
from the oven. Of course there was a hefty
bowl of butter just waiting
on the sidelines to be slathered on them.
They were definitely worth
arriving early to be the first in line to
get one. I was almost 50
years old before she shared her secret
recipe with me. Her secret
recipe was, get in the car, drive to the
grocery store and go to the
freezer section! She pulled one on us!
Mom loved going
for rides in the
car. No place special to go just riding
around looking at the
countryside. Of course, there always seemed
to magically be a garage
sale or 2 jump in the way and cause us to
have to detour and slow us
down. We weren’t looking for them or
anything like that, they just
seemed to appear out of nowhere. Ah, but one
of her favorite things to
do was to make the ride across the river to
the casino’s. She loved the
awesome music those machines would make. She
also loved the idea of
getting a free soda, it was, after all the
perfect excuse to stay
longer. Who doesn’t like free soda. She
always brought back more money
than she took with her and she would share
it with her friends. Since
she was the winner she would buy the
hamburgers on the way home.
Mom always made
a really big deal
at Christmas time for everyone. She spoiled
her kids along with her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The
house was always decorated
and shiny bright. Early December was also
the start of the candy
factory that was set up in the kitchen.
Candy, candy….Sooooo much
candy. She had one bedroom at the back of
the house that was fully
devoted to storing all those luscious
treats. Candy, cookies, fudge,
and numerous other sweet treats. She made
enough sweets for everyone to
have more than they could eat or take home.
What treats were left over
after our Christmas party she would take in
to town to the bank,
Funeral Home, fire station, nursing home or
any willing soul that
happened to glance her way.
Mom also sold
tons of vegetables
out of her garden to make a little extra
money and she also made a lot
of extra friend’s this way. Mom never turned
anyone away that needed a
little help. She was very helpful with the
neighbors and would assist
them any time they needed it .
That’s Mom in a
nutshell. Of
course we all have our own individually
memories’ that we keep private
to ourselves and await the day we get to
share them with her again in
Heaven.
Sarah was
preceded in death by her
parents: Ruth and Arlin Landreth Six
Brothers : Albert Landreth,
Leonard Landreth , Jerry Landreth, George
Landreth, Kenneth Landreth,
Jack Landreth, and one sister Shirley
Shelton along with her husband
Rodger Curry. Sarah was survived by Two
Brothers: Bobby Landreth of
Benton Arkansas, Roy Landreth of Traskwood
Arkansas. Three Sisters:
Mary Sue Hulsey of Irving Texas, Jo
McCutcheon of Lawton Oklahoma,
Elizabeth Pearson of Malvern Arkansas. Her
five children: Dennis
Sheridan of Parker Texas, Jimmy Sheridan of
Anna Texas, Tracy Dahir of
Wylie Texas, John Curry of Caddo Mills
Texas, and Stephen Curry of
Dallas Texas. 15 grandchildren and 27 great
grandchildren.
Funeral
services will be held at
11:00AM Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at Scoggins
Funeral Home Chapel with
pastor Jim Jake Templin, officiating. Burial
will follow at the Van
Alstyne Cemetery. A come and go visitation
will be on Tuesday, July 14,
2020 from 3:00PM to 8:00PM. The family has
requested for the funeral
services to be recorded and will be posted
the following day on
Sarah’s, obituary wall for family and
friends to view.
