Sue
was born on the family cattle farm west of
Anna, TX on a fall day of
September 23, 1944 to Allen and Bonnie
(Phillips) Holland.
She passed away
on February 19, 2023 in Anna, TX after a long
suffering of heart and lung disease.
Funeral services
will be held on
Saturday February 25, 2023, at 11:00AM at
Scoggins Funeral Home in Van
Alstyne. Visitation will be held Friday
February 24, 2023, from
5:00-7:00PM at Scoggins Funeral Home. Burial
will follow the funeral
service at Van Alstyne Cemetery.
Sue is survived
by her husband,
Junior Strawn, one son, Tommy Allen O’Dell and
wife Betsey Thompson,
one stepdaughter, Maggie, one stepson,
Michael, one granddaughter,
Andrian O’Dell, one grandson, Jacob O’Dell,
two Great Granddaughters,
Zozie and Grace, and her sister Delores
Richards. She is also survived
by a number of nieces, nephews and cousins as
well as her sweet kitty
cat, Mittens.
She is preceded
in death by her
parents, two sisters, Ruth Harlow and Marty
Lawson. Three brothers,
Homer, Pete, and Joe Holland and her special
friend Doggie Maggie Suzi.
Sue graduated
from Van Alstyne
High School in 1963. She became employed by
S.W.B. Telephone Company in
1964. She retired in 2002. After retiring she
took up flowers and
gardening. In 2017 she won gardener of the
month for June.
In the early
1970’s she was top
barrel racer throughout Texas and Oklahoma.
She was a member of the
American Legion Auxiliary for over thirty
years. She served every
office from President all the way down. In the
Van Alstyne Unit she
originated the first Friday of the month fish
fry over 20 years ago.
She is a lifetime member of the Telephone
Company Pioneers and the
local union CWA in Dallas, TX. She is also a
member of the Anna
Historic Society.
She would like to
