Wanda was born on December 27, 1938 to Benjamin Harrison Bowman and Margaret Marie Ellen Johnson. She was the third oldest of her six brothers and sisters, all growing up on the family farm. This tight-knit family was an important part of Wanda’s life, and was responsible for many fun adventures and memories along the way. She is survived by her son Charles Buck and wife Donetta; her son David Buck; her four grandchildren Jamie, Ashley, Jacob, and Emily; and many others in her large, loving family. Wanda married the love of her life, James Leslie Buck, on September 25, 1954. They were blessed with three boys: Alan, Charles, and David, in the following years. James worked for Texas Instruments, and would often be sent overseas to work in their Stuttgart, Germany location while Wanda stayed stateside with the boys at home until she was able to visit. Wanda would say that she ‘was meant to have boys,’ and was an expert at gentle no-nonsense parenting. Wanda spent her career in the medical field by working for Medical Plaza Hospital as a laboratory associate for many years before retiring to become a caretaker for several family members and close friends. A hallmark of Wanda’s spirit was her tireless ability to take on the role of caretaker and healer when others could not find the strength within themselves. Her comforting tone and spoken sentiments provided the soothing reassurance needed at just the right time. To her grandchildren, she was affectionately known as “Granny”, and to many in the family and community, “Granny Wanda” or “Granny Buck”. Granny enjoyed spending quality time with her grandkids, and would have them over every weekend for playtime. Granny would often accompany the grandkids on trips to the beach or camping, with some of the most memorable trips being to Washington DC and to California, just to name a couple. Wanda opened her home to her family every Sunday for ‘family supper’, and treasured the time she had each of her children and grandchildren around the table sharing a hearty meal. A family favorite she made by frequent request was her pot roast with carrots, potatoes, and gravy.
