Van Alstyne - Services for Cecil Lorus Thornton, 88-year-old retired Van Alstyne farmer, will be held at
2 p.m. Thursday in Flesher Funeral Home Chapel.  He died Monday at Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman.
The Rev. Hugh Moody and the Rev. Dennis Wilkinson will officiate, with burial in Van Alstyne Cemetery.
Mr. Thornton was born in Kelly, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Rhodem Thornton, and married Glydie Norwood on June 30, 1923, in Van Alstyne.
He was a member of First Christian Church in Van Alstyne for 65 years, and had served many years as a deacon.
Surviving are his wife; daughter, Joan Cavender of Plano; son, Bob Thornton of Van Alstyne; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. today, and other times at the family residence.
