Genealogical Collections Obituaries ROXIE STRICKLAND 1903 - 1982 Van Alstyne - Services for Roxie E. Strickland of Irving, 79-year-old housewife who died Tuesday in Irving Community Hospital, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Flesher Funeral Home Chapel of Van Alstyne. Burial will be in Van Alstyne Cemetery. Mrs. Strickland, born in Collin County, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John A. England. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Howe. Surviving are her husband, John F. Strickland; daughters, Johnye Murphy of Archer City; son, G. G. Strickland of Dallas; sisters, Myrtle Little of McKinney, Lorene Overby, Inez Russell, both of Howe, Lira Jay and Mae Richardson, both of Van Alstyne; brothers, Vester England and Ray England, both of Howe; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Sherman Democrat Thursday 13 June 1991 Page: A8 John Strickland 1903 - 1991 VAN ALSTYNE - Services were held Wednesday in Flesher Funeral Home for John Frederick Strickland, 87-year-old Irving maintenance worker who died Monday at Irving Community Hospital. The Rev. Jimmy Tarrant officiated, with burial in Van Alstyne Cemetery. Mr. Strickland was born in Jamison, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Giley Strickland. He married Roxie England Nov. 7, 1923, in Van Alstyne. He was a Baptist. Surviving are his daughter, Johnye Murphy of Archer City; son, Giley Strickland of Farmers Branch; brother, Bob Strickland of Van Alstyne; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Steve Elliott, George Campbell, Gary Murphy, Dale Murphy, Brett Murphy, Raymond Mullenix and Drue Murphy.
