Death of Pioneer
Lady
Mrs. Lydia A. Yealock, one of the oldest
settlers in the section,
residing with her daughter-in-law, Mrs.
Dora Eskridge in Collin county,
near Mantua, died yesterday morning at
an early hour and funeral
services were held at the Christian
church this morning at 11 o'clock,
after which her remains were laid away
in the Van Alstyne cemetery.
Mrs. Yealock was born November 18th,
1848, and had made this section of
Texas her home since a young woman,
settling here with her husband
early in life when there was no Van
Alstyne and only one building in
Mantua. Early in life she united with
the Christian church and had been
a faithful disciple of her Lord
to the end. Her husband preceded her to
the other world several years
ago. She is survived by a brother, John
Jones of the Kelly community;
two sisters, Mrs. Nancy Reeves of
Sherman, and another sister at
Vernon, whose names we failed to learn,
besides other relatives in this
and other parts of Texas. To those who
mourn her death the Leader
offers profound sympathy.
