Funeral services for Dee Walter Jay were held last Thursday afternoon at four o'clock in the First Methodist Church, attended by a large crowd of sorrowing friends as well as relatives. The service was conducted by the pastor, Rev. B.C.Robertson, assisted by Rev. James C. Coffey. Interment was in the Van Alstyne Cemetery, under the direction of Flesher Funeral Home.  Pallbearers were Robert Fielder, Sylvester Williams, Oscar Williams, Harry Hunter, Roy Jackson, Charles Winifield, John Kuykendall, Homer Cate, and Henry Hynds. Mr. Jay passed away in the Wilson Jones Hospital on Dec. 21 at 8:30 p.m. from injuries sustained when a trailer tongue hit him in the stomach on Dec. 9th.
Mr. Jay was born near Van Alstyne on Sept. 20, 1896, a son of the late Robert O. and Era Henley Jay. He was united in marriage in Van Alstyne with Miss Willie Lee McWatson on Sept. 22, 1905. She preceded him in death on May 23, 1955. He was an active member of the First Methodist Church.
For a number of years, Mr. Jay was an auto dealer and later was in the auto parts business. Later he was a carpenter, builder and painter. He had a host of friends and enjoyed fishing. He was a loving father and grandfather. He was a man of sterling character, trustworthy in every way.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Quin Hunter of San Antonio, by one granddaughter, Marla Hunter of San Antonio; by three sisters, Mrs. Gertie Tate and Mrs. Lee Walsh of Van Alstyne, and Mrs. Pearl Taylor of McKinney; by three brothers, Victor Jay of Van Alstyne, Raymond Jay of San Angelo, and Sam Jay of Rob___, Texas.


RITES PLANNED FOR RETIRED TEACHER
VAN ALSTYNE - Funeral services will be held for Mrs. Willie Lee Jay at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in First Methodist Church, Van Alstyne. She died Sunday morning in a Sherman hospital after a long illness.  She was 70 years old.
Rev. Pete Robertson, pastor of the Methodist Church, and Rev. James Coffey, pastor of First Baptist Church, will conduct the services. The family will be at the Flesher Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.
Mrs. Jay was born in Van Alstyne June 1, 1894, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. McMillan. She married D.W.Jay Sept. 22, 1915. She was a retired teacher.
Mrs. Jay was named Citizen of the Year in 1961-62 by the Van Alstyne Chamber of Commerce. She was a member and past president of the Van Alstyne Culture Club. She also was a member of the Woman's Society of Christian Service and the First Methodist Church. 
Mrs. Jay's survivors are her husband of Van Alstyne; one daughter, Mrs. Quinn Hunter and one granddaughter, Marla Lee Hunter of San Antonio; four sisters, Mrs. Bessie D. Jay, Mrs. Travis Cole and Mrs. Hugh Neill of Van Alstyne and Mrs. O.L.Bassham of Corpus Christi; one brother, Carl A. McMillan; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Jay's body will be at the church from 1:30 p.m. Tuesday until time for the funeral.
