Died in San Antonio

Mrs. Henry Harkrider, aged 51 years, died in San Antonio last Saturday, and her remains arrived in Van Alstyne Tuesday on the north-bound H. & T. C. railroad, and funeral services were conducted immediately thereafter at Van Alstyne cemetery, Rev. W. Harrison Baker pastor of the Methodist church officiating.

Mrs. Harkrider was formerly Miss Cora Whitesider, and lived in this city, where her father conducted a hotel on the site of the First National Bank more than 35 years ago. The family removed from here to Whitewright where Miss Cora was married to Mr. Harkrider, who was station agent at the time for the Katy railroad. Her father was known well to the older citizens here as Major Ben Whitesides, and was an excellent gentleman of true southern hospitality and doubtless there are numbers of people throughout North Texas who put up at the Major's Hotel in Van Alstyne in the early period of the town's history. Mrs. Harkrider had been in San Antonio some time, and a few days ago underwent an operation for appendicitis, which was the immediate cause of her death, though she had been in a low state of health for some months. The deceased was a cousin of Dr.S.D. and J.B.Moore in this city, was related to Rice Maxey and others of Sherman, and has one brother in Denison, George Whitesides, who conducts a hotel there.
