September 3, 1936 Page 5 Evie Bell Gentry Funeral services for Mrs. Evie Bell Gentry will be held Friday afternoon at the First Baptist church with the Rev. Frank Johnston officiating. Burial will be in the Van Alstyne cemetery with Fox-Fanning conducting. The deceased was born May 10, 1881 at Nashville, Tenn. She came to Texas 49 years ago and settled at Van Alstyne. On May 10, 1905 she was married to Sam Gentry. Surviving are her husband, two children, Mrs. Leona Gilchrist and Miss Wanda Gentry, both of Van Alstyne and two brothers, John and Mone Sandin, of Melissa. Van Alstyne Leader
December 20, 1957 SAM GENTRY PASES AFTER LONG ILLNESS Death came to Samuel M. Gentry last Thursday afternoon at four o'clock after a prolonged illness. He had been a resident of Van Alstyne for many years, and was a retired carpenter. Funeral services were held in the First Methodist Church Saturday at 2 p.m., conducted by the pastor, Rev. Walter B. Sullens, assisted by Rev. J.O.Duckworth. Interment was in the City Cemetery, directed by Flesher Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Arthur Allred, Troy Tillett, Alma Adams, Otto Geer, Clarence Daughtery and Henry Graves. Mr. Gentry was born in Texas on July 28, 1870. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Leona Hamonds and Mrs. Wanda Daughterty, both of Van Alstyne; by two brothers, Eli Gentry of Van Alstyne and Richard Gentry of Ennis; by five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
