Jackie Wilkins 6 November 1938 - 7 September 1976 Van
Alstyne, Texas -- Serena Lee Wilkins was born on January 1, 1937 in
Madisonville, Texas. She was the third of six children born to the late
John Spivey, Sr. and Mary (Winn) Spivey.
She graduated from Mary Anderson High School in 1956. She later attended Prairie View A&M University, where she majored in Home Economics. In 1962 she married her college sweetheart the late Jackie Wilkins. Their union lasted 14 years until his death in 1976. After Jackie's honorable discharge from the Army, the two moved to Van Alstyne, Texas. She worked at Texas Instruments until retirement. She was a loving sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, friend, and a devoted Christian. Shortly after moving to Van Alstyne, Texas Serena became a member of the Eastside Church of Christ, which she attended faithfully until she entered rest. She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband and sisters, Gladys Mason and Claire Sandles. She is cherished in memory by her sons: Jackie Dennis Wilkins and wife, Donna Wilkins and Ricky Wayne Wilkins; sisters, Priscilla Yell and Anita Pope; brother, J.P. Spivey and wife, Lena Spivey; sister in-law Margarete "Clay" Williams and grandchildren, Arrica Hughes, Brandon Wilkins, Jaclyn Wilkins, Olivia Wilkins; great-grandchild, Kennedy Brantley; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. A Home Going Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Eastside Church Of Christ, located at 737 East Fulton, Van Alstyne, Texas, with Bro. Larry Shead Sr. officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior of service. Interment will follow at the Van Alstyne Cemetery. Alton Pope, Jonathon Spivey, Jeremy Spivey, Eddie Mason Jr., Ernest Alexander and Carl Sweet will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Wilkins, Jackie Wilkins, Brandon Wilkins, Cade Pope and Donald Clark Fulbright Jr. Funeral services are under the direction of Scoggins Funeral Home & Crematory, 637 W.
