Norma Jean Simpson Whitaker passed away November 12, 2016 after battling cancer, with her son beside her. She passed into the loving arms of her heavenly father. Norma was a very loving and kind mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was an active member at Elmont Baptist Church. Norma was born May 19, 1923 to Rex and Iva Sweeney Simpson. She married Willous Whitaker December 30, 1939 in Van Alstyne and they enjoyed 64 wonderful years together.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband Willous and son Larry, parents Rex and Iva Simpson, brother; L.D. Simpson and sister Ruby Grandstaff. She is survived by her son Danny Whitaker and wife Linda, grandson Michael Whitaker, granddaughter Victoria Valadez and husband Ralph and their daughter Cami, sister Margaret Wilson, brother and sister in-law Kenneth and Jo Simpson, brother in-law Glen and wife June Whitaker and sister in-law Wanda Burns, numerous nieces, nephews and a wonderful loving group of friends.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 17, 2016 at Scoggins Funeral Home in Van Alstyne. Rev Mark Fletcher Pastor of Elmont Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in the Van Alstyne Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Scoggins Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Scoggins Funeral Home, 637 W. Van Alstyne Parkway, Van  Alstyne.
