May 16, 1904 The funeral services for Mrs. Susan Tyree will take place at the Christian Church, from the residence of John W. McKinney, at 4 o'clock this afternoon. Friends and acquaintances are invited to attend. Interment in the Van Alstyne Cemetery. AGED LADY DEAD Mrs. Susan Tyree died Sunday afternoon at 4:20 at the home of John W. McKinney, south of town, where she had made her home for a number of years. She was 84 years of age and had been in the McKinney family since 1849, having formerly made her home with that grand old pioneer, Collin McKinney. She was a noble Christian woman, held in high regard by all who knew her. The services were conducted by Elder M. S. Dunning at the Christian church in this city Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock and the interment was at Van Alstyne Cemetery. MRS. SUSAN TYREE The subject of this sketch died at the home of John W. McKinney Sunday afternoon, May 15th, in her 84th year. Bro Scott McKinney says of her: "My first acquaintance with her was in the year '49, when she and her husband came in a covered wagon to my father's, Collin McKinney, home. There they remained for more than a year, when they went down into Ellis county and entered a piece of land, staying long enough to make their claim good for 320 acres. Coming back to Collin McKinney's, they made that their home; taking care of the old people during their last days - until death. For their great kindness, painstaking and care toward Collin McKinney and wife, four of their heirs gave them a farm of 67 acres. On this farm they lived until Mr. Tyree's death, which occurred in the year '67. Since that time Mrs. Tyree has made her home with Wm. C. McKinney and his sons, Dick, Mack and John W. McKinney at the old homestead. She has been with the latter since 1898, and to him he says, while she was no relative at all, she has been in may respects much like a mother to his children, especially for two years after his wife died." It was shortly after coming back to Collin McKinney's from Ellis county, that both she and her husband obeyed the gospel and became members of the Christian church. From that time, about 50 years ago, she has been a faithful member of the church. She was of a very agreeable disposition, ready and willing to wait on the sick, kind hearted, sympathetic and tender; loving to do good. Hers was a strong faith. Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord. The funeral services were conducted by the writer at the Christian Church, Monday afternoon, May 16, and she was laid by her husband's side in the Van Alstyne cemetery. M. S.
