 A. H. Tipton 15 April 1862 - 20 July 1924 Van Alstyne Leader July 24, 1924 P. 8 A. H. Tipton was born on April 15, 1862, at Lafayette, Walker county, Georgia. He died at Howe, Texas, on Sunday, July 20, 1924, at the age of 62 years, 3 month and 6 days, after a long illness. About 30 years ago, he moved to Texas and has since made his home in this State and community. During this time, Mr. Tipton has resided almost altogether in South Grayson and North Collin counties, where he was well-known and highly regarded by a large circle of friends. Mr. Tipton is survived by seven children, as follows: Mrs. A. O. Gleaves, Van Alstyne; Claude Tipton, Tom Bean; Charlie Tipton, Whitesboro, Walter Tipton, Almelo; M. M. Tipton, Claude; A. F. Tipton, Guymon, Oklahoma; Mrs. B. Tabor, Conway. In religion, Mr. Tipton was a Nazarene and a faithful exponent of teachings of his Savior. His days were happy, and he passed away in full assurance of a hereafter among the saints, and with the benediction of the faithful as his row for a well-spent life. In all of activities, he was a man of sterling worth, a devoted father, an exemplary citizen and consecrated follower of his Mater. As his death broached, he called his children to bedside, and admonished them to be faithful unto death, asking that they so shape their lives as to meet him in heaven. He especially urged his son to follow the path of right, and to men of whom their families and friends would be proud. To Maud Gleaves, who had been by his bedside for several weeks and she had faithfully ministered to him, parting words were: "Maud, you have been a good girl; you have rarer given me any trouble, but have helped me often though many difficulties; be good always, and meet me in heaven. Funeral services were held at Heron Monday of this week, conducted by Rev. Farley, pastor of the Christian church at Whitesboro. The services were largely attended and very impressive. The body was brought to Van Alstyne, where interment was had at the local cemetery. To the father and relatives, all the people of this community extend most sincere sympathy.
