Services for Eddie V. Thornton, 92, retired farmer who died Thursday, November 16, 1978, at a McKinney nursing home, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Flesher Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the First Christian Church in Van Alstyne.  Burial was in Van Alstyne Cemetery.
Mr. Thornton was born in Texas, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Rhodon Thornton.  He married Elzada Haun on June 19, 1910 in Van Alstyne and was a member of the First Christian Church.
Surviving are his wife of Van Alstyne; daughters, Mrs. Ola Strother and Mrs. Betty Garvey, both of Fort Worth, and Mrs. Ruth Spence of Van Alstyne; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Cecil Thornton and Hansel Thornton, both of Van Alstyne.
Pallbearers are Bobby Thornton, Garnett Howell, Bill Taylor, Freddy Holcomb, John B. Howell and James Thornton

Van Alstyne - Services for Mrs. Elzada Bell Thornton, 87, of Van Alstyne, who died Wednesday at a McKinney hospital, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Flesher Funeral Home Chapel.  The Rev. Hugh Moody of the First Christian Church will officiate.  Burial will be at the Van Alstyne Cemetery.
Mrs. Thornton was born in Arkansas, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Holland, and was married to E.V. Thornton on June 19, 1910.  Mrs. Thornton died Nov. 16, 1978.  She had been a member of the First Christian Church since 1936.
Surviving are her daughters, Mrs. Ola Strother and Mrs. Betty Garvey, both of Fort Worth, Mrs. Ruth Spence of Van Alstyne; sisters; Mrs. Ethel Moore of Van Alstyne and Mrs. Prudence Kelsey of Leonard; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
