Thornhill 22 May 1940 - 6 November 2021 Herald Democrat Wednesday, November 20, 2002 Van Alstyne - Funeral services for Dolan Alfred Thornhill, Sr. of Van Alstyne, will be held Thursday, Nov. 21, 2 p.m. at Flesher Funeral Home Chapel in Van Alstyne. He died Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, at his residence. Officiating ministers will be Jerry Smallwood, Jerry Pentecost and Joel Pitts. Burial will be in Van Alstyne Cemetery. Flesher Funeral Home of Van Alstyne is in charge of arrangements. Family visitation will be Wednesday 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Survivors are his wife, Melba Thornhill of Van Alstyne; four sons, Dolan Thornhill Jr. of Gunter, Bobby Thornhill of Howe and David and Tom; 2 sisters, Velma Dugan of Sunnyvale and Esta Murphy of Odessa; 4 brothers, Eddie Thornhill of Washington State, Travis Thornhill of Dibol, Melvin Thornhill of Lake Tawakoni and A.W. Thornhill of Howe and 13 grandchildren. Melba Fay (Baker) Thornhill of Howe, Texas passed away on Saturday, November 06, 2021 at the age of 81. She was born on May 22, 1940 to N.C. and Irene Region Baker in Manard, Texas. She married Dolan Alfred Thornhill, Sr on June 21, 1957. Melba raised four boys - enough said. She loved her grandkids and great-grandkids who called her Memaw. She loved Elvis, gospel music, watching Westerns and Christmas movies. Some of her favorite memories were of living with her grandparents as a young child, playing the accordion, and singing in church with Dolan. Melba was a believer of the Jesus Name Pentecostal faith. Melba is survived by three brothers: Sonny Word of Jim Ned, Texas, Ronald Baker of Pearland, Texas, Chris Baker of Fort Worth, Texas and one sister, Edith Womack of Westbrook, Texas. She is survived by her sons, JR and Renee Thornhill of Gunter, Texas, Bobby and Alesia Thornhill of Howe, Texas, David and Sharla Thornhill of Van Alstyne, Texas, and Tommy and Tina Thornhill of Rochester, New York; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Melba is preceded in death by her husband, Dolan Alfred Thornhill, Sr; mother Irene Word, and sister Berta Poe. Pallbearers will be Asa Thornhill, Dusty Thornhill, B-Ray Thornhill, Justin Thornhill, Trent Thornhill, Jared Thornhill, and Talon Thornhill (honorary). A visitation will be held on Friday, November 12, 2021 from 6pm-8pm at Scoggins Funeral Home in Van Alstyne, Texas. Services will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 2pm at Scoggins Funeral Home with a graveside to be followed at Van Alstyne Cemetery.
