Leah Strickland 30 November 1881 - 22 January 1957 Van Alstyne Leader January 25, 1957 Page 1 Mrs. Leah Strickland Passes After Attack Mrs. Leah Strickland, 75, suffered a heart attack in her yard Monday evening and was rushed to the Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman where she expired Tuesday afternoon at 3:40. Funeral services were held in the First Baptist Church Thursday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. O. Duckworth, with interment following in the City Cemetery. Mrs. Strickland was born on Nov. 30, 1881, in this state. She was the widow of the late G. D. Strickland, and was a member of the Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. H. F. Caraway of Texarkana, and Mrs. Pascal Mullenix of Fort Worth; by three sons, John F. Strickland of Irving, Jack Strickland of Dallas, and Bob Strickland of Van Alstyne; by 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; by one sister, Mrs. Henry Taylor and one brother, C. M. Yeury, both of Howe. Jack Strickland 1908 - 1980 VAN ALSTYNE - Services for Jack Strickland, 72, of Azusa, Calif. and former Van Alstyne resident who died Tuesday at an Azusa hospital, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Flesher Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. E. G. Gregory and the Rev. Scott Jordan, Baptist ministers, will officiate. Burial will be at the Van Alstyne Cemetery. Mr. Strickland was born in Texas, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Giley Strickland, and was a veteran of World War II and former employee of Dallas Power and Light Co. He was a Baptist. Surviving are his wife, Opal; brothers, Bob Strickland of Van Alstyne and John Strickland of Irving; and sister, Alma Mullenix of Fort Worth. Pallbearers are Raymond Mullenix, Clifton Mullenix, Ben Doyle, Bill Smith, Giley Strickland and Harry Haworth. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday.
