 Amanda Gertrude Stout 1883 - 1977 Van Alstyne Leader June 30, 1977 Funeral services were held Sunday for Mrs. Amanda Gertrude Stout, 94, of Van Alstyne. She died Friday, June 24, 1977, at a Sherman Hospital. The services were held in the Flesher Funeral Home Chapel and were conducted by Rev. Gary Kincaid and Rev. Don Griffith. Burial was at Van Alstyne Cemetery. Mrs. Stout was born in Arkadelphia, Ark., on April 21, 1883, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Butler. The family moved to Dallas and that is where Mrs. Stout grew up. She married O.A. Stout in Howe on January 7, 1905. He was employed by the Interurban Transit Company and was the agent on the first run of the Interurban train that came through Van Alstyne. He was employed with the Interurban until it closed in 1948. Before her marriage, Mrs. Stout operated a millinery shop in Howe. Following her marriage, she closed the shop and with her husband settled in Van Alstyne. Mrs. Stout was a member of the First Methodist Church in Van Alstyne and was active in her church. She was a charter member of the United Methodist Women's Society both in Howe and here in Van Alstyne. She was president of the Society in Howe and guided efforts by the Society to help raise money to build a new Methodist church building in Howe. She was also president of the Society here in Van Alstyne and helped raise money for the preset First United Methodist Church building. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Lavinia Hartley of Van Alstyne; two grandchildren, Tommy Hartley of Dallas, Howard Larry Hartley, Van Alstyne; four great-grandchildren, Jessica and Andrew Hartley of Dallas, Jason and Quintin Hartley of Van Alstyne and one sister, Mrs. W.B.Morgan of Dallas.
