for Loyce Thomas Umphress, 68, were held Saturday at the Flesher
Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Umphress was a retired Pottsboro school
teacher. He died in a Dallas hospital on Thursday, February 9, 1978 The service were conducted by Rev. Gary Kincaid and Rev. Mack Pope. Burial was at the Van Alstyne Cemetery. Mr. Umphress was born in Van Alstyne, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Umphress. He married Elizabeth Bowen on November 18, 1928, in Sherman. He was a World War II veteran. He taught school for 37 years. He taught at schools in Aubrey, Cold Springs, Lone Star, Roanoke, Emhouse and Pottsboro. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Van Alstyne. October5, 1990 pg. A4 Pottsboro - Mary Elizabeth Umphress, 81-year-old retired school teacher of Pottsboro, died Monday at a Bedford nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. today in the Hurst Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jimmy Morgan officiating.Burial will be in Van Alstyne Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst. Mrs. Umphress was born in Elmont, the daughter of Reece Bowen and Annie Arnspiger Bowen.A graduate of Denton High School and East Texas State University, she married L.T. Umphress. She had taught school in Aubrey and Westminister.She was a member of the Sherman Bible Baptist Church, and a former member of the Hurst Baptist Church. Surviving are her daughter, Jerry McMullin of Bedford; sister, Annabelle McDonald of Sherman; and three grandchildren.
